Intel co-brand could work wonders for the Motorola RAZR i

Rating: Joint development between handset and chip vendors

If there was ever a handset which currently could be described as an ‘iPhone 5 killer’, it would be Motorola’s latest member of its RAZR family launched in Europe today [September 18th 2012] – the RAZR i. About the only thing wrong with this smartphone is the spelling. If it had A-p-p-le or S-a-m-s-u-n-g as the brand name on top of the handset’s screen, then everyone – not just GoMobile News, would be singing its praises. We have, however, figured out why its charms have worked so well on us.

This publication is upgrading from a regular RAZR model to its latest reincarnation – the RAZR i.

The big question is … can Motorola lure people away from the two major handsets brands with this handset?

The answer is that by joining in with such an iconic brand as Intel, this latest RAZR at least stands a good chance of grabbing market share.

Motorola loaned us a RAZR i with the proviso that the hardware we have in our sticky mitts almost certainly doesn’t have the bug-fixed release of Android (4.0.4/ICS) that consumers will enjoy when it finally ships.

There were a few initial glitches with the handset’s software which GoMobile News fully expects Motorola to fix before it actually ends up on the shop shelf.

Whilst Apple produces handsets which shamefacelessly are in compatible with other brands, Motorola has likewise makes it as easy as possible to migrate from one Android handset to another.

The question is … has Motorola done enough to get Android fanboys camping outside Tesco’s doors to wait for the RAZR i to go on sale?

Probably not but it could easily win converts over by stealth.
