One of the top selling internet connexions anywhere in the world is a mobile broadband dongle. It’s not just portable but loved by travellers for the chaos it saves in going online. Simply connect to the internet anywhere in the world and don’t worry about a home connexion. Most internet-enabled laptops and notebooks and some tablet will readily connect with an internet dongle to update messages, social media content, or receive and send email promptly.Gone are the days when cable connexions were the only medium of online data transfer available.
Today- thanks to the mobile internet – phone lines, Ethernet cables and DSL are no longer required. However, every technological advance has its own Achilles heel.
The positive aspects of a mobile connexion
It’s easy to figure out the good points of a mobile connexion. Nevertheless, here is a small recap of all the advantages a mobile connexion has as opposed to any other connexion.
- Affordability – Get plans and tariff rates in any budget restriction. You no longer have to be content with dial-up because of your budget problems since at the same tariff plan rates you can access fast connectivity.
- Student Friendly – Its portable nature obviously makes it a better choice for students and travelling business folk. Connect anywhere anytime you feel like it.
- Easy Startup – Simply plug in the internet dongle and let the software auto-install. In a matter of seconds you are ready to access the internet. In fact, the first time you connect to the internet is a breeze.
- Zero Pain Of Installation – No tangles, no hassles because there are no cables. With a dongle service, it’s a matter of one tiny device that can be carried around in the pocket.
- Fills Internet Service Gaps – In places where landline connexions are unavailable, these mobile connexions fill the gaps allowing folks to stay connected to the internet.
The negative aspects of a mobile connexion
- Higher Costs – While there are many tariff plans, on average they cost more than conventional broadband connexions for home users.
- Speed variations – While speeds can be phenomenal, mobile broadband suffers from bouts of inconsistency. Move away from your usual place of access and speeds can drastically fall or dramatically increase.
- Low Download Limit – Finding affordable unlimited plans is difficult on mobile services. At best, one has to limit their usage to quotas of 10 GB or 15 GB at a high tariff.
- Less Reliable – The modem is prone to breakdown just as is the internet service because of its relation with telecommunication networks.
- Offers a choice of 3G, 4G or slower EDGE and GPRS. There is nothing in between that can bridge the performance gap between platforms.
It is obvious from the above disadvantages that a mobile connexion is rarely all that great but for certain types of folks it’s the best service out there. Anyone who travels a lot or does not use the internet at home will love a mobile internet connexion but those who work on a workstation are better off without it.
