Vodafone Ireland shells out €160.85m for new 4G spectrum

UK auction next port of call

Vodafone’s operation in Ireland has successfully bid for new 4G spectrum licences at a cost of €160.85 million.
In what the operator claims is a “significant” addition to its existing network, it acquired two 10MHz tranches in the 800MHz band, the same again at 900MHz and two 15MHz licences in the 1800MHz band.
They will be valid from next year until 2015.
Britain’s biggest operator is also expected to bid for major chunks of the UK’s newly available 4G services when they are auctioned early in the new year.
Only yesterday [15th November] Vodafone also revealed how it had successfully bid for new bandwidth in India, where it has a user base of 150 million, at a cost of £138 million.
